81 Chrome Rocer Panels

I've seen some 81s with chrome rocker panels. I though they were all black regardless of the car's color. Obviously I'm wrong. Where can these chrome one
be purchased? Neither one of my catalogs have them listed. :rolleyes: :flag

I think the one's you are seeing are brushed aluminum instead of chrome. Look for replacements for 70s vettes which all had the aluminum ones. They should mount to your 81 with no problems if you can stand the high prices - they aren't cheap! :sad:

remove the paint , thinner and elbow grease or even very fine steel wool

The metal around the windows is the same way, just take some steel wool to it if you want it chrome.

I like the black look myself...but until they are on your vette its hard to tell if they stand out the right way...

The rocker panels on my '81 were painted black. Underneath the black paint the aluminum of the panel is polished & clear anodised, so stripping the paint will give a shiny finish. You can also then get the anodising chemically removed (or do it by hand, which takes ages) & get them mirror polished if they aren't in good condition. Then they can be clear anodised again, left bare (if you don't mind frequently polishing them), painted or anodised a different color (I've had mine anodised black & they look :cool: ).
