Battery isn't getting charged!
Hey I have a 1971 Corvette in good condition. I've had it for a couple of years. It has always driven well. I recently had a strange thing happen. My battery isn't getting charged! I bought a new alternator. I pulled it and a new battery back out to have them retested. Also lost dash lights. Checked fuses. Replaces the 5 amp. No lights! Car starts fine. Radio is playing, and radio lights are on. But the amp gauge is not working. I put a new amp gauge in because the old one failed a continuity check. Any Ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

There is a fusible link right behind distributor (middle of firewall) for the ammeter. If you have a meter pill your pasitive battery lead and check for current. Highest current setting on meter. I like 30 amps but 10 may do. You can also put voltmeter across battery and should be 12.2 or so with car not running and 13.8 volts when running

another thought is the two wire plug going into the alternator can have a wire break under the insulation. Attach a volt meter to the output terminal on the alternator and flex the two wires going into the plug and see if the voltage reading changes.

The 'tail lamp' fuse feeds the instrument fuse.
If only the instrument fuse blows you will have no dash lights.
If the tail light fuse blows you will have no tail lamps and no instrument lights.
