81 Rear Defroster Problems

81 Rear Defroster Problems
On my 81 the defroster works about 20% of the time, and it never stays on the same amount of time when it does work. Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this? All the connections I've looked at seem to be good. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the rear defroster?

Ben,
My defroster doesn't work at all so I checked the wiring out. The wiring diagram in the manual doesn't correspond to what's in the car, so I can't help you there. It could be a problem with the controller unit, which is located in the Jack compartment. Good luck!
If anybody has a correct wiring diagram I wouldn't mind a copy as well :D

If your car is a summer car only, why not convert defroster to a radio antenna? I disconnected both leads to the defroster and soldered antenna wire to it and sealed the original radio antenna mast opening (with matching plastic spray can cap material). Works great!
