Default Advices on a new engine build...

I'm going to pro build a Nova SS (I know I know it's not a vette...), the car will be built with the less BS posible (power things, A/C, etc) looking at the weight savings.

I need an advice on engine parts to use, it must be a 450-600 HP, possibly with alu heads.

SB or BB?

Dart M blk? (I had it in my 406 SB 575hp engine in my C3 and never ever gave signs of probs...

Intake and carbs?

Forged internals?

Will a new Muncie 4 speed M22/M23 hold the power and torque? I don't want to go exotic with 5 or 6 speeds trans.

Thanks in advance for your precios comments and advices...

First do you have the facility to do it yourself and do you have a machine shop that is capable of doing the required work needed?

What are you plans for the for the car? resto, track, street, nitrous etc.

Crate engine?

This much power in a Nova, probably not a cruise around town car. Yeah we do engines, but the chevelle guys, yellow bullet, etc are more all out 8000 rpm for 9 seconds type people.

A well built fuel injected SB 427 will get you right at 600+ hp or a injected 454 would be around the same hp. How much money do you want to spend? A 632 BB with fuel injection can get you to 850-1000+ hp. Pick your poison and go from there. I would not push a stock M22 to far past 600 hp/tq. There are people building up-graded M22s that can handle the higher hp/tq numbers for around $2700.

Cost per HP, small blocks don't compete with BBC. Over 600 427 ci. Could cost $12,000. On the other hand it only takes a hotter cam and headers to make a650 hp 502

The 572 ci motors we an exceptional value

Im gonna quit building a new car, the task is too meaty for the time I have available, Im probably buying one of these two 69 Camaros with BB I went to see in Holland last week...Prices are pretty high but for fully restored muscle cars these are the kind of price levels you need to face..

Look at them and tell me which one seems a better deal tks.

If I were you I would build a 421. The 3.875 stroke crank makes for a better, stronger piston and you will never notice the loss of torque. With the right heads, the 421 could make 575 streetable horsepower very easily with a hydraulic roller cam.
I used to build these with a Dart 227 CNC head but there are a couple of better options now......one of them is the AFR Competition CNC head......but my 227 CNC stuff would make 108% VE...so the AFR should improve on that. I used a ported Brodix HV1 intake or the Wilson Super Victor.......the intake is very important at this level as you are trying to move a LOT of air through smallish runners.
The Little M Dart block is an anvil.
Make sure you grind the cam on a .900 base circle to clear the rods. H-beam rods are standard issue here along with a 4340 crank. The Callies Dragonslayer and Scat/Eagle are offshore forgings but are damn near indestructible.
Finish it off with a 950 HP Holley and good to go.

Between the two I would get the Black Z28. But I like Black, Big Block, 6 speed Camaros.
