Getting pistons out of calipers?
How is this done? Special tool? Or do I pry a screwdriver between the metal part of the seal and the caliper and rip it off?

Shoot some air in through either the bleeder hole or the brake line connection. If you have them apart, just put your fingers over the holes.
A little goes a long way. Only use about 20#, any more and you have to dig them out of the wall. :D :smash:
It will get them out far enough to grab them.

Brettmc,
I use a screw driver between the rubber of the dust boot and the matal part of the dust boot BUT push the piston in first, then they usually just pop up. ...redvetracr

Same as redvet.......just push the piston in and then pry under the metal ring while using the piston top as the pivot. No need to worry about hurting the rubber if your rebuilding them anyway.

Hi
I did it the way CHILTON's manual mentiones.
Just used a screwdriver to pry it out after pushing the piston all the way in.
I ordered O-ring pistons to avoid this calipers from sucking air whenever there is slight bearing play or runout.
I had to take one piston out to ensure that my calipers are stainless steel sleeved already, and they are.
Good luck Gunther

WESCH, Where did you order you O-ring pistons from. I just pulled the rear calipers off and I thought I would go ahead and rebuild everything, since I had the front calipers rebuilt about a year ago. Is there a shop that has Caliper rebuild kits????? :smash:

Vette Brakes sells the kits with O ring pistons.

P.S. Can I just upgrade to O-ring Pistons without additional modifications or do I need to purchase additional parts for the rebuild??????????
