an exception: are some Marine Dual-engine applications ... on some of those, one motor turns CW and the other turns CCW.

Dizzy installed correctly? Tooth off?
Wouldn't that be something if you hooked the timing light to the wrong plugwire?

And the weights facing the other way? Its a Ford thing.

Came home from helling a friend with his diff rebuild and the timing moved back quite a bit. i cant even make it run at 0° advance ( on the timing mark) because it just cuts out.
Do the following
1. Purchase or borrow this. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-900189/overview/
2. Ensure you have a silver or black (whichever will be easiest to see on your balance) marker
3. Have a small tape measure that bends along the balancer curve easily
4. Optional: Pull all the spark plugs. It will roll over easier plus when you go to roll the engine over backwards you won't be as likely to loosen the balancer bolt.
3. Pull the number 1 spark plug and insert the piston stop into the engine and thread in the stop portion of the stopper. The one I have won't let you thread it into the engine which I believe it what is linked.
4. Rotate engine clockwise until it bumps up against stop with piston. DO NOT FORCE.
5. Mark the spot on the balancer.
6. Rotate engine counter clockwise until you hit the piston stop again.
7. Mark this spot on the balancer.
8. Using the tape measure mentioned on item 3 and measure the 1/2 way point between the two marks. This should be your TDC mark on the balancer. If not it's spun.

And your next question will be can you just replace a balancer? Yes you can. As long as your 350 is still internally balanced putting on a new balancer isn't a huge deal. You'll need a balancer puller/installer. DO NOT HAMMER ON THE BALANCER. Probably will have to pull the water pump pulley to make enough room for the balancer to come off. It wouldn't be a bad idea to put in a new front main seal while you are at it but that thing can be a pain in the car.

Hold on there. Don't get ahead of yourself. Run some TDC test before grabbing your credit card. It may be fine.

Maybe Lars can verify something here:

Lars, have you seen many vibration dampers slip?
If so, which way do they slip? New / incorrect mark is now more clockwise? Or new incorrect mark is now CCW?

New mark is now more clockwise ( if it has slipped) making the car look like it runs retarded instead of advanced

Fitted the new damper, reset the timing and went for a testrun. Needless to say it runs better. Just compare these 2 results 😅
