Default "Floaty" Speedo Needle

In general, my speedo is dead-on accurate when measured against my GPS speedometer App.
What I DO see, is that when accelerating or decelerating moderately, the needle tends to float around a bit, almost like a fuel gauge needle reading the tank float changes during turns, etc.
Since this is a gear-driven cable-driven speedo system, what would cause this "fluid-like" movement as the needle moves up and down the dial?
It probably floats within a moving 10mph range as it ramps up or down in speed.
Once I level off the pedal, the needle settles down to dead-nuts-center of what me true speed is.
So, it's not an accuracy issue, just a nagging curiosity on my part.
Thanks!

Replace speedo cable.

There is a 'clutch' (magnetic) on speedos as well as a return spring.....could be lubrication problems within the head too..

Not to mention lubrication in the cable (I fixed a jumpy speedo by pulling and lubing the cable). I pulled the cable out, removed the inner portion from the sheathing. Use a graphite lube on the inner cable if you have it.

Yes, lubricate the speedometer cable with spray graphite lube. Disconnect both ends and spray until you get liquid at the other end. Do not use grease anywhere near the speedometer itself as it will be forced into the mechanism and ruin it.

We have Nikola Tesla (the same man who invented the production, distribution and utilization of alternating current electricity system very little changed to this day) for the dead-on ***** accurate speedometers that work indefinitely. Such was on of his very minor inventions that helped to pay the bills after the titans of industry totally screwed him over around the turn of the 20th century.

my plastic gear stripped in the trans, pretty sure it was bouncy until it finally stripped. it was an easy fix after I tried putting graphite in the cable, tearing the cruise transducer apart and the last thing I looked at was the plastic gear in the trans
