Default Wiper linkage LH stop problem

Hi there,
Last week-end, there was some rain on the road and I had to turn on my windshield wipers. Unfortenately, a strange sound came from the LH side. I first thought of a wiper blade that touched the windshield trim, but I noticed in my garage that was the arm (and more pecisely the brass washer tube ) that knocked the pivot reinforcement bracket.

I've readjusted my linkage this evening and it seems that the arm don't touch the bracket for now, but the clearance is still quite small...I've searched the reason of that small clearance, but didn't find it

Is someone can help me to decode the page D6 of the '72 AIM, that yould help me... I think the distance from the center of the pivot to the center of wiper motor axle is more 19.43'' than 17.43''... because 19.43 is the half of the complete distance of 38.86'', I assume this will be 19.43''. Otherwise, I don't have the correct distance here.
But the big problem still the same : I don't know how to adjust my linkage to have more clearance...
Thanks.
Chris

I know this adjustment, but it is the arm itself (where this adj.screw is) that touches the bracket....

Even that screw adjusts the height a bit ,Mine was opposite to yours and the wiper was hitting the wiper door ,thought it was the linkage adjustment and could not get it any lower so adjusted the screw and it dropped the height to not hit the wiper door .you wouldn't think that would change the height ,but it does .Hope this helps

My arm doesn't hit the wiper door, but the little bracket that support the door hinge...
I've rechecked this evening my distance between the pivot center and the wiper center axle and it is correct !
The drawing is really not so clear, but with a little time, I've now found actually 17.43''.
I ask me if the little clearance (less than 1/4'') is correct : any advice ?
Regards from Switzerland :-)

Hello !
I come back to this post, exactly one year later ;-)

I removed yesterday the access panel and grille in order to have a better access on the system.
So, I was also able to made some better photos of my problem :

As you can see, my left wiper arm almost hit the reinforcement of the hinge, Could you tell me if on your car it is also the case ?
I can't find for now a solution to this....
The main issue is the washer nozzle tube : it is already a little bit damaged and I'm affraid about an hole on it soon or later. These tubes were bought by Doc Rebuild.
Is my tube not correctly mounted ?
Thank you in advance, folks !
Chris

When the arm is in the rest position, is it all the way down and resting on the stop in the middle? I am wondering if you could remove the arm and turn it 1 tooth counterclockwise on the spline. That would let you clear the bracket easily. If I get some time today I 'll try and take pics of my '72.

Hi Kansas,

If I understand well what you propose, this is not possible : there is a key on the pivot and a groove on arm :

I'll be glad if you can take some pictures from your car in this area !

I tried to take some pictures today but they came out very no good, and on top of that I lost them as well as everything else on my phone today soooooo, I can tell you that from what I could see I had quite a bit of clearance there. I will try again on the pictures as well as the attach point of the linkage to the wiper stem. By the way, what is your measurement from center of the stem to c/l of the car, says 17.43 in the AIM. Also, look at attached shot, see what kind of attach points these are, maybe some adjustment here?

Default Pivot arm

Do you think maybe you have the wrong arm on the back of the
wiper motor. There are 2 different ones. If you loosen the adjustments
there andpush the arm over with your hand while you tighten the
small bolts you can get more out of the adjustment . Or at least I did.
the Willcox website will show you the different arms. Worth a look.

I found yesterday the solution on my problem :
I adjusted the linkage (with 2 nuts) in order to have my arm less close to the hinge and readjusted the screw "A" to approch the wiper blade to the windshield pillar.
With big surprise, I had enough provisions in adjusting travels to do that
Thanks all for your help !
Chris
