Hi all, I have read all the post about the removal and install of the poly C/A bushings. However, I am still a little reserved.... If I use a hole saw to get the old ones out... won't I gouge the hell out of the old sleeves as well? I have read that the sleeves can be reused if I am installing poly bushing??? I could always burn'em out. I don't think it would fatigue the metal... just messy. Any help would be great on this....
Re: NEW Question on the poly bushing install... (Mr.Gearhead)
If you use a hole saw in a drill press and it is only slightly larger than the inner sleeve then you won't scar the shell. You can also do the same thing with a 1/4" drill bit, just drill holes around the inner sleeve then dig the old rubber out with a screw driver.
Re: NEW Question on the poly bushing install... (Mr.Gearhead)
I installed the prothane bushings in mine and they did not require the old shells, in fact they would not fit if the old shells were in place. I dug the old rubber out, then folded the shells into the center to remove them. The best way is to use the tool designed for this. If you think getting them out is fun, wait till you have to put the new ones in.
Re: NEW Question on the poly bushing install... (Mr.Gearhead)
IMHO, I don't see where a few minor gouges or scars would make a significant difference ... I used hole saw ... made a few gouges ... no probs with mine. While I don't recommend intentionally gouging, it does provide a little area to hold a bit more silicone grease ... similar to groove in upper main motor bearings. BTW, my energy suspension poly bushings fit the old shells just fine. I haven't tried it, but I think a quart of toluene might readily dissolve the old rubber ... invite the neighbors kids ... it'll give em something to do & quiet em down.

Re: NEW Question on the poly bushing install... (Mr.Gearhead)
I didn't use a hole saw but drilled a lot of 1/8th in holes thru the bushing. I then dug & picked the rest of the bushing out. I used the new shiney shells.
