Re the distributor, I've been told that I need to get a MSD as it's the only one that will fit. Is this true?

Wow, that sounds like a badass vette. Okay that's great info, I'm hearing that the trans that's in it is near bullet proof if properly maintained and setup.

I just found out that I have a 3.55 posi rear end. So I'm guessing this will be a perfect setup? Is there anything that you'd recommend doing with this rear end to take advantage of it?

Yeah I'm thinking a combination of black and silver (no chrome tho).

Okay awesome - that's what I figured. Air Gap it is. Should also help feed the engine more cooler air considering I live in California.

Is there a reason you went with the MSD distributor? I'm hearing that it's one of the only replacements that will actually fit because of it's slim profile? Also, do I need to worry about having a mechanical tachometer cable, or does it just screw right into it like the OEM one?

From what I've seen from the stamping, it's a 3.55 posi. Will still need to do the manual test to be 100% sure, but to my knowledge the rear end has not been touched. Why do you ask? I've seen a few questions about the rear end now and am curious what it's related to - the cam setup?
The only reason I went with the MSD distributor is that I needed the mechanical tach drive and I wanted to use the factory ignition shielding. They make a tach drive HEI if you don't want/need to use the shielding. The MSD works great it is just expensive.
