I am trying to restore a 1973 vette but i can't get the guages to work or the lights.I put a new light switch in but its a eight lug and the one that came out was a seven. I have tail lights and courtesy lights
You should buy the wiring diagrams for the car if you don’t already have it.Looking at the diagram there is a pink wire coming from a 10 amp fuse in the fuse panel that feeds the fuel, temp, door open lamp ,parking brake lamp and others.
Check for your 12 volts there.

Hmmm, I’m having a similar problem on my 73 coupe. I recently purchased my car and I was aware that none of the gauge lights would come on when the headlights were energized. The previous owner had recently had the dash apart for lens replacement and wiper switch repair and it looks like a new headlamp switch may have been installed as well. With the headlight switch in the on position you should have power returning from the headlight switch on the dark green wire that feeds the short fuse located on the lower left position marked Inst on the fuse panel. The downstream side of this fuse is grey wire that feeds all the instrument lights. I don’t want to take my dash apart just yet, so I’ll be curious to hear whether you discover it’s the switch or some other cause, like a common ground.
