Adopted a members L82 this week which I believe is a std bore (1973) havent verified
Would like to go through it and use a forged piston. and throw some compression at it.
Suggestions? Hear Probe isnt around anymore...and wont pay $700+ for a set.
Maybe Speedpro? Don't know if they're still around or what they cost. Used them on a build back in the 80's and they were affordable. Also try Summit Racing or Jegs.

Thx guys head will probably be aftermarket alum 62-64cc prefer a dome
playing with the idea of mayyybe going low on compression and adding a st blower making this more driveable than the big head sr 383 thats in the car now.
That requires a decision (a good one) and Im not good at those lol
does it need a rebuild? if pistons and bores are good, those are forged and paid for. that oem head is 74cc's. aluminum name brand heads in 58 to 64 cc's will up the CR and increase power way more than domed pistons in the orig heads.
Not sure...owner said he thought it may have had a head gasket issue but I believe its std bore just got it a few days ago
Wont be able to tear it down for a week or so. These blocks are impossible to find anymore so it would make a good back up in case.
May have something going on as my cooling system is getting pressurized, dont think its the heads. Hopefully I didnt split the block.
If you can save the bores and stock forged pistons this will be a breeze. Make sure the shop uses the hard stones to clean up the bores and make them straight. Then you can actually measure and see what you have. Dingle ball hones will make it rough but do nothing to straighten up the bore.

pressurizing cooling system? head gaskets. blocks rarely crack in the bores. not until a valve head gets loose. and that is a whole nother issue. and on that note, what imported heads? they are notorious for using cheap valves, springs, etc. the castings aren't that bad. flow pretty good. few sealing issues. but throw out those valves and springs. ferrea or manley. comp cams springs and retainers are cheap and durable.
Derek I upgraded all the parts and corrected a lot of flaws. They are pretty decent but wouldnt put them on top of a real expensive shortblock.
Couldnt bring myself to put a stock engine back in this thing.
