Default Main Girdle - does it actually do anything?

Didn’t even know such a thing existed. I came across this part while looking for something else on Craigslist. As near as I can tell, the studs would be extended, much like a windage tray, and the girdle would be mounted on top of the main caps. Seems to me it wouldn’t make any difference. Anyone know otherwise?

Small block Fords use 'em because they need 'em, short cylinders and weak overall structure..
Waste of money on a Chevy of any size IMHO.

If you google them you will find they were popular before 4 bolt mains and are used to prevent cap walk.

Surprised noone has made a cap/cast pan assy that could allow a "crossbolted" main type setup that would do the trick
Never felt those did a lot maybe cheap insurance? Shaft rockers are made for valvetrain concerns-

Saw that. Just not obvious to me that it would actually work. I suppose it would prevent deflection of the studs but at that distance, I'd think flex, which is probably the bigger issue, wouldn't noticably be affected.

I accept the argument for stud girdles more as the rocker sits further away from the stud boss. In the case of the main cap girdle, the caps are literally bound to the boss.

If they had value, everyone would sell them.
