Our Corvette is having shifting issue's. It will shift and I can hear it click, but when I put it into a gear nothing happens. anyone have any idea's? My husband can see the linkage shifting so could it be that the gears are slipping? Trans fluid is full and looks clean. Also when we start it, the RPM's read 1500? Last owner had this car stolen for two weeks. they put a screw driver in the dash and broke a Glass T Top. Last owner said he thought it could be the linkage?
Your husband was able to look under the car and was able to see the lever on the transmission case move?
Did he try to move the lever further by hand in case the cable is kinked and does not move it fully?
You checked the fluid level with a fully warmed up running engine?
If it has a modified or aftermarket torque converter like mine, you may have to let it warm up a minute before the front pump fills the converter and engages.
On the tach: when IGN is shut off, its normal to read 1500. But in your case, it stays there. Inspect the tach filter. Canister, looks like a condenser, mounted on the Intake rear, wires going to the distributor. Those solder connections break loose sometimes. You can re-solder or buy new. Hope its not the tach board behind the dash.
There are test to preform to determine what's at fault here.

Yes, and He said the cable seems ok, but he is by no means a Mechanic.
