I'm pretty sure I want to paint my currently white / light brown interior 77' blue. I love the "electron blue" color of the new vettes, but is it really expensive? I'd like to try to get the car painted for about $1500, i'm still in college. Paint can't wait either, it looks pretty poor.
If your paint is in bad shape meaning cracked and really faded it should be stripped or the new paint will not hold up very long. This means you won't find someone to paint it for 1500. If it just needs sanded and painted you could probably get it done at Maaco for that price. Good Luck, Craig
I agree ,if you spend $1500 at Maaco they might do a decent job.At any other shop ,you might get it stripped and bodywork done for that.If it is cracked ,it will have to be stripped ,no if and or buts.It wouldnt even look good the day after the painting is done.Paint isnt majic ,it dont fill cracks, trust me I wish it did. :D
sand the car down yourself , you`d probably do a better job because the car means something to you and you get to save a few$$$ at the same time.
That's not a real good Idea for a novice..... without the proper tools. It must be THOROUGHLY de-greased and wax free BEFORE you even touch it with sandpaper or you will sand all of the contaminates into the paint. Without the proper tools and practice, you may get waves in the body, or if it has been repainted you may sand through into another layer (or previous repairs) in some places, which will show up in the final paint. Maybe not right away but as it ages, many things will begin to come back to haunt you.. Also sanding may hide tiny stress cracks in the gel coat that the painter won't see until it's too late. Sometimes paint shops won't paint your car if they don't prepare it themselves for thes reasons mentioned above. You may be able to find a body man that will help you on the side and save a few bucks. What you can do is remove all of the trim, door handles, mirrors, light housings and the stuff they usually tape over at a generic body shop.
