1981 corvette alternator getting hot
a couple of months ago i posted about my alternator getting very hot, even went through that i had replaced the rebuilt alternator that was on the car when i bought it, well the rebuilt finally died also the voltage regulator got fried. so i went to napa and purchased a new one. than talked to a guy in my area who owns a shop. he told me leave it here and i will get to the bottom of this. 2 week later stoped by his shop. he cleaned and replaced almost every ground in the car, now he was down to 2 wires, the hot wire from the battery and the ground to the battery. the ground wire tested good the hot wire the coating was worn away in a couple of spots so he ran a new hot wire along the frame and hooked it up, wow 14.5 volts to the battery. so this morning started the vette up and let it run for about 20 min. the alternator got warm but not hot. i live in florida and in the hot summer yes it will get hotter. so hopes this helps others who have a problem
