I installed a ZZ6 crate motor PN 19417576, the intake is PN 12496822. Even with a drop base air cleaner it's still too high for the stock hood. I want to keep the stock hood. The intake height is 5.6".
Can anyone recommend a lower pad height intake for this engine that will not diminish the horse power?
what engine came out? intakes don't have that much effect on power until you get into the top of the rpm range. your orig intake will fit. what year, what hood? 69 flat hood is harder than 73-up hood.

Just curious as to whether it is the factory drop base? I found that to be much better than aftermarket "drop bases". Also, just how much clearance are you missing?
I know we are taling about different cars here, but:
For example my original Cowl Induction Air Cleaner 2-Snorkel Drop Base has a dropped distance of about -13/16” from the carburetor neck flange to the flat of the filter area.
The 14” Chrome Drop Base Air Cleaner that I currently have has a dropped distance of -1-7/32” from the carburetor neck flange to the flat of the filter area.
This sits 13/32” (almost 1/2") lower than the Cowl Induction Air Cleaner base.
So there is something gained by searching around for different air cleaner bases.
edelbrock Torker 2 PN 5001 is about another 1/2" shorter at 4.08" ... and is single plane ... BUT ...
... BUT ... it has smaller port openings, so it may Not properly cover fast-burn heads' intake ports .
the way to measure an intake. set it on a flat surface on the lip that seals to the china wall. lay a straight edge across carb flange. measure height at the front and back of the intake. flat intakes with no forward lean to carb flange are a disadvantage as the hood is lower the farther forward you go. measure your old one that worked for a reference point. you can also drop it on the engine with carb and air filter. then play doh or wadded up alum foil will squish to the clearance between hood and air filter when you close the hood on it. filter and carb would have to be bolted on so they don't lean and give false reading.
