I have been having problems with stalling with my 78 vette. It only occurs when my car accelerates from idiling. When pushing down on the gas pedal i feel and hear the car about to die, so i let up on the pedal and push down again causing the engine to rev up and regain power. Does anybody have any ideas what the problem might be?
One possibility is the accelerator pump in the carb. You can purchase a rebuild kit for the Quadrajets pretty cheap and they are fairly easy to rebuild. Nearly all kits come with the accelerator pump.
Sounds like a off-idle stumble to me? Probably it's a tired accelerator pump or improperly adjusted idle jets. Check out Lar's paper on Q-jets on this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=431354
There are also some articles on Q-jet rebuilding in the http://www.corvettefaq.com web site, some also written by Lars.
Take a look at lars thread. He goes through just about everything on the carb.
What kind of carb do you have? I had a Holley 750 DP on mine. After trying everything, I switched to a smaller carb and it ran great.
