Default Brake and steering problems need help ASAP

Hello, the belt for the power steer in my car is loose and I don’t know how to tighten the belt. Also my brakes only work when I push the pedal almost all the way down. The car can stop but it’s not enough to drive it properly. I included pictures of the belt and the brake fluid in the pump. If anyone has any guides or know how to fix this stuff lmk. Also the wiper door doesn’t open enough so I have to finish pushing it for the wipers to come out. Is that a weak vacuum problem or the actuator?

Something looks funky on the PS. For one thing, the PS belt is suppose to be a short belt, going from the crank pulley to the pump only. Second, the PS pulley appears aftermarket and looks like it rubs the frame. Take a look at some diagrams at Keen Corvette or Zip Corvette for reference and maybe belt part numbers.

Rear brake system has taken on moisture. But the whole system should be flushed, only after you have verified there are no leaks anywhere. I suspect the masters lid gasket is allowing unwanted elements in.

Alternator belt appears too long also. The ALT is at a bad angle and should be closer to the valvecover.

Next: Your throttle cable is binding at the sheath.

Pretty sure everything is original except the alternator. I’m going to tighten the belt and see if it fixes the problem. I’ll also fill up the brake and power steering reservoir. I might get a mityvac and check for leaks but at that point I’ll just get a mechanic. I’ll have to remove the alternator to tighten the steer belt, anyone know a better way?

how can u see the throttle cable?

btw should the pa belt run over the fan?

No need to mess with the ALT to tighten the PS belt. Using a 1 X 2 wood stake, jamb it between the pump and block. Pry down on the pump, tightens belt, snug adjustment bolt. But you will have to get under the car to loosen the PS pivot bolt / nut first. It gets tightened last.

Is your PS pully shaft hitting the frame?

No, I can’t get under the car so I need to remove the alt to get access to the bolt

My car has a double pulley on the power steering pump. One side goes tho the crank and the other goes to the PS pump.

YOu should get a vacuum gauge and see what your vacuum is and if the hose is leaking. If your door is slow its usually a leak and if its big enough your car will run poorly and that will affect your brakes as well.
