I hope someone will be able to advise me on this question on a 1970 Corvette differential.
I have the differential off of the car, oil drained and all cover bolts removed. Broke one. Just the bolt head came off.
I can not remove the cover. Can I go around the seem with a chisel and try to force the cover off or am I going to break the cover?
Tried driving a putty knife in but that ain't going to happen.
Thank you
When I replaced my diff yoke this past summer, I used a 1 1/4" wood chisel and a small hammer. Just kept tapping around the whole diff cover until it finally popped.
Get a putty knife and use a 4 or 5 inch grinder to thin it to a taper. Tap it in between the cover and housing and slowly work around the cover and it should come off
Use something thin like GTR1999 suggests. Anything thick may crack the cover. I used a thin putty knife and worked all around the gasket until it finally came off.
