Default 1970 Torque Specs for A Arms

I am getting ready to set the engine in my car Friday or Saturday. I have waited until now to torque the bolts that hold the bushings in the a arms until after the engine is set in the frame. What should these bolts be torqued at? I need to know for the upper and lower control arms.

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Eddie; I believe the uppers bolts are 55ftlb.

The lower rear was 90ftlb and the two lower front are 70-75ftlb.

Glad to hear your dropping the engine. Should haul!

The torque specs were in my AIM for my 71. I recently moved and have not looked for my AIM but I'll dig it up and look for you.

I'm getting ready to do the same thing but I was under the impression that those should be torqued down after the wheels are back on the ground (assuming you have it up on stands). That way all of the weight is on the suspension. Just a thought.

You are correct sir. The AIM says to torque them with the car a ride height. Thats how I did mine.

I guess I could have been a little clearer. My car is on the ground but still doesn`t have the motor in yet. When the motor gets home that is when I will do the torqueing. I just wanted to get the numbers ahead of time.

Good luck One Bad 74.

I have the motor hanging on the engine puller and the transmission attatched. It should be in sometime a little later this afternoon. :smash:

Hey guys thanks for the help. I got the arms torqued. That means the motor is in. But that is it. Still got to put the radiator support and all the radiator stuff in. I am pretty stoked at this point.

BTW, this is me right about now,

What torque spec did you use? I found my AIM and it says for the bushing bolts (lower) is 45 to 55 lb/ft. The lower arm frame attachment bolts 75 to 110 ft/lb for the rear one and 60 to 80 ft/lbs for the front ones. The upper control arm attachment bolts (where the front end alignment shims go) are 45 to 55 lb/ft. There was no spec for the upper control arm bushing bolts in the AIM so I used the lower spec on all bushing bolts.

I did the same as you did John.

Not running yet, but I just keep going out and tinkering with it. Kinda cool out in the garage.
