ok, i put a richmond 6 spped in my 81, and when i started the car befor hooking up the headlight switch (befor dash was installed) the lights opened. now that i have it done, and its all back toghter, how do i get them to close again. i know im not spose to close them by hand, is there a vacum line i have to unhook somewere, or is there a lock on the headlight assembly? thanks for the help :chevy
As 79ProwlerOrange said, it's possible that you knocked the manual switch open while messing with the dash or, one of the vacuum lines that go to the manual switch got messed up while removing/installing the dash. In either case, if you just MUST manually close the lights, do yourself a favor and disconnect the vacuum lines to the actuators. I'm assuming you know to reach in and pull back on the mechanism (there are posts describing how to do this better than I can) If you don't disconnect the lines though, you stand a chance of blowing a diaphram.

Reach up under the cut out under the valence, and get hold of the mechanism on the outboard side of the headlight. Sort of tough to describe, but you push up and pull down. That will allow you to pull the headlight closed. If you do it right, it will come down easily. If you have somebody show you the "magic trick", it's easier yet. Chuck
:seeya Possible you have the line on the manual over ride crossed or crossed at the headlight switch. :yesnod: However you can either pull them down manually by reaching under the assembly at the cut out in front of the air dam and grabbing the center of the lever assembly at it's "knee" and pulling out and down to release the the assembly and push it down. :smash: take the vac lines off the relays on the off chance there is still vac present in the tank :yesnod: You can also just apply vacuum to the rear of each actuator via a hose from a vac fitting on the intake or a hand pump such as a vacuum brake bleeder :smash: all this will get them down, but if switch lines are crossed or off, they'll pop back up when you start her up again  :seeya
