Dropping the engine back..
I`m getting closer to the day when i will drop the Rat back in the vette and i have som Q..
Should i drop it with the tranny(M20) bolted to the engine or should i bolt the tranny in the car first?
Any thoughts on this? :cheers: :cheers:

If you can put it in as an assembly. Trans included. It will make it easier. I have done it just putting the engine and bellhousing in but you can't bolt in the trans then put in the engine. you can lay in the trans but you will have to wiggle the trans in while the engine is almost in.

I don't know about a BB, but I just dropped my 78' SB in w/o the trans. I made sure the trans would slide into the clutch before I installed the engine in the car. Then used a couple of 4" long studs (cut the head off some grade 2's) in the lower trans bolt holes in the bell. Trans slide right on. Easy job, and I was working by myself. Used a scissor's transmission jack which made life a whole lot easier.
