71 electrical system gremlins...
Hi Vette Gurus,
Went out with my car club on an all day event about 100 miles away from home. The event was great, the Vette ran like a charm! On the return home it got dark and I had to turn on the head lights. As time went by I noticed the intensity of the lights getting dimmer and my battery gage was showing negative. Weird things started happening like the turn signal both lighting up and fluttering. Eventually I was on the highway with no lights. Pulling off and coming to my exit the motor was sputtering and as the rpm’s dropped it eventually stalled out 😕. A great day ended in by having to get towed away.
thought it was just that my battery died. It tested bad and the alternator was working fine. I put in a new gel battery and everything seemed fine. Battery gage was showed the battery was charging. Now this evening I had the car out and was getting dark so I put on the lights. Suddenly I notice the directionals doing the same thing again. They would both light up sort of fluttering. Happens as I’m giving it gas. If I back of the throttle it stops. Please see the attached video or go here:
The battery gage shows it’s charging. Anyone ever have this happen. Is it a symptom of something else in the system failing? Any ideas or thoughts welcome. Thanks for taking the time to read all this...
That gauge is showing you that the Amps being drawn are equal to what is being replaced assuming it is readying properly. During night driving my car would show the amps in the positive when it was charging. I had an alternator fail once and it was reading in the negative when I put on my headlights. I would take a look at your power connections at the horn relay. That is the main power distribution point on the car.

Thanks for the advice, as it turns out the gremlins were coming from a broken ground lead to the alternator. Was causing all kinds of problems and weirdness... Fixed
