Default Hate these strap bolts

For anyone that's familiar with my conversion to use larger u-joints, everything's going fine and just about done, but I'm hating those 5/16" torx head bolts! I had to buy a socket to fit, and went through three brands before I found one that would seat properly. I got the bolts from ZIP and I guess they all come with thread locker on them, but to what level? These had a yellow color compound on them - and lots of it, so needless to say, it was a struggle getting them in. I couldn't even use an air wrench rated at 50 ft lbs, so you can imaging the fun I had! I managed to ruin a couple of the heads, but fortunately was able to back them out. The torque is spec'ed at 22 ft.lbs., but with all that goop on the threads, there's no telling what it is. I guess my lesson learned here is to first remove the thread locker and apply my own! :smash:

I got fed up with the thought of those bolts and got some grade 8 allen head bolts. Put some little thread lock on them and they went in like they should and torqued down properly. Plenty of socket clearance and the heads fit on the straps perfectly. And no wear or scars at all! That's the way to go! Anybody else use these? :cool:
