Ok I just tested my memory and downloaded both the 69 & 70 Chevelle brochures from the GM Heritage Center.
And guess what? Not one word in either of them about either one of the SHP or mechanical lifter big blocks, L78 or LS6.
Kind of a hidden secret I guess.
At least the Corvette brochure listed the big boy engines!

But whoa - check out those bell-bottoms!

What do you think about carb on my combo, Now I have a 870 Holley street avenger, its a vaccum carb and just one acc pump.
I also have a Holley 750 full mecanical dubble pumper, is it a better choice?

Personally on a street car I like the vac sec ones. It's hard to over-carb them, and they shouldn't have flat spots, etc. I am used to Holleys, I have no experience with the street avenger carbs.

For drag use the Double pumper ones are usually preferred They can give a stronger shot and hit the tires stronger/quicker at launch. They are a little trickier to tune and more sensitive to size, but once tuned properly should be fine. They do usually use more gas if that is a concern..

If you go with vac secondary check out Quick Fuel Technology secondary pot. Instead of changing spring to alter secondary opening rate they have an adjustable screw.

With the exception of the aluminum heads that's very similar to one of our 100% stock-appearing builds!

With a set of non-ported, 3/8" valve stem "840's" on a 9.5:1 C.R. we see 510+ HP @ 5900 and 480# T @ 4800. Same cam, 11-451-8.

This is also with the OEM "3885069" intake and 750 Holley.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. I see absolutely no reason you shouldn't see 550+ with the addition of those Edelbrocks?? Here's a shot of that very one we finished for the resto shop!!

I see you have the L78 hi Rise intake, I have to use the low Rise for the stock Corvette Hood.
