From: San Diego - Deep Within The State of CONFUSION!
C3 VS. Z28
Yesterday afternoon I went for a mountain run. it was a perrrrfect day in San Diego for a trip. :yesnod:
On the last stretch of windy road before meeting w/the freeway I was behind a late model Camaro Z28 and he was obviously enjoying the curves in the road too. We had about 15 miles of curves ahead of us...and for the first time, I got to see the err of my ways! :smash: :mad :mad
OK, I was able to keep up with him but it was a lot more work for me I think. You see, when I got my '76 it needed tires. I wanted 60-series rubber but also wanted white letters. After a few days of shopping, I settled for 225/70R15 Firestone SS20's w/the Indy Logo. Great looking rubber against a dark brown car. :D :yesnod: :yesnod:
But yesterday afternoon I'd have LOVED :chevy to have had H rated 60 Series rubber instead of what I have (with a T rating)... Them 'Stones may LOOK great but in the curves of the road that heavy car is just too much for them. I may need to re-think this decision and sell them :mad :smash: :mad
Suggestions anyone? With the engine project going on this month it sure isn't a priority item ... but yesterday got me thinking'!!!!!!!!!! :jester
if you just have to stick with 15" rims then your best bet is likely going to be the b.f.g. radial t/a. you can still find it in 255/60-15 and it is an 'h' rated tire (i think). if your really serious about enjoying some of that beautiful san diego back road scenery, you gotta go bigger. 16" minimum but 17" i think would really make the difference. wheel vintiques makes 17" rallye style wheels that would maintain that classic look but allow you the opportunity to put on some nice firehawk sv50s or similar. or you could go with a late model or complete aftermarket rim and personalize the choice more to your taste.
chris, you've got to start spending some money on suspension stuff. my c-3 will spank almost any stock or nearly stock 3rd gen f-body through the turns. the 4th gens are much better but i've owned an '85 and a '92 camaro and neither were on par with my 'vette. the '92RS was close to mine when both were stock, now not so much.
still, the one undeniable truth about going faster is--tires.
