Blower motor does not work when using switch. If i disconnect the power and ground wire from where they are connected to the blower and use a direct 12volt source it works. How do i decide if its the switch or is there a relay also. Thanks TELK
It may be the relay. I know mine would not work using the switch unless I put it on high. That is the only setting I could select and the blower motor would work. It ended up being the relay. Now, after replacing the relay, it works on all the settings, and the low setting works all the time while the car is in the ON position like it is supposed to, regardless if the engine is running.
I dont know the year of your 'vickle. on my 71 the low-mid speed relay for the fan is in the center console. It is in the upper right side just benith the switch iteslf. If you take off the passenger side center console plate thingie (it held on by one screw, and it is there for decortave reasons) you should be able to strain to see it.
I suggest you put your hand on it and you can feel the relay "click" when the moter is activated.
The HI speed relay for the blower is located in the engine compartment, passengerside, close to the blower moter (withen 6 inches or so). This should be easley seen. It will have 2 connections going to it, a 3 wire plug and a 2 wire plug. (I THINK you will see a heavy guage purple and/or oragne wire).
If the relays are orignal you could rebuild them (simply get them open and clean off the metal bits), or as for me I used a Ford relays (hey they were free!).
Now my blower works fine (i just need a new blower moter)
