AC Blower help

OK you C3 experts, help me out with this; when I got my '77, the blower would only blow on the 1st 3 speeds and not on 'maximum'. I replaced the AC blower relay & now all of the speeds work, but guess what? Now when you put the selector on normal AC or Vent, all of the blower speeds work as they should, but when you slide the selector to 'MAX' AC, no matter where the blower speed switch is, the blower suddenly starts to blow on maximum! The AC doesn't work (yet), but I don't think that would have anything to do with this little gremlin! Any ideas???

I'm pretty sure the blower is supposed to go high speed whenever the MAX AC is chosen.

Are you sure about this? That's a new one for me. I thought that 'MAX AC', was similar to the recirculated air/ AC position on newer cars, and that the blower speeds still functioned the same.
