i've noticed over the last month or so that my 79 is getting harder to start. each time it seem to get harder to. the battery is good cause it will crank over the car all day long to the point of it becoming flooded. the chock seems to be working correctly. it acts like its not firing. any tip on checking if its firing or not? any suggestions?

If there's no spark check the distributer power to see if you have your 12V feed. If not check out the ignition switch,if you do,check into the module in the distributer, the coil or cap. I had a cap where the center electrode was almost completely gone, and the SOB still started and ran.
:iagree: I think The Money Pit has identified the area. My mom had an 82 Buick with highway speed skip and I went through everything until I discovered that even though the +12V connector to the HEI distributor had power, the copper connector was so dull and surface corroded that it wasn't making good contact. Try unplugging it and scratching up the surface of connector and recepticle contacts. It solved the problem on the Buick for several years then I had to do it again. A little oil/grease on the contacts after cleaning seems to extend the useable time.
