Default Diff Side Yoke Dimensions?

Hi!

A friend and I want to try "restoring" a set of worn side yokes using Lars' "hardened-button" method.
I had found the "new" dimensions of the yoke, but obviously forgot to bookmark the page...

So, I'm looking for the distance between the top of the groove for the C-ring and the top of a new yoke. From memory something like 0.187" but I'm not sure...

Thanks!

I have seen anywhere from .165- 190". I guess those coping originals were lost. A lot depends on how your posi is setup. I just fit original 68 axles yesterday, still good after 52 years and better then what you will get today = either new or rebuilt. In a common posi setup they had 020" endplay, in a tuned posi I had to grind 005" off the faces for 005-007 endplay.

Does anyone happen to have a new yoke they could measure?
I've found a piece of paper in the cellar with different dimensions on it, so now I'm fairly unsure of what to go for....

Thanks!

Build your posi, I recommend tuning it but do it your way. Then when you have it where you are done install your worn axles and measure the endplay to determine what you need to add for a tip. Do not bore too deep into the axle face and make sure your button is a press fit into it. You want to end up with a 005-007 gap but you can go as much as 010". The cross shaft is hardened so your material has to hold up to the constant impacting it will take on every corner.

Hi!
I know that would be the best way to do it, but we can't leave the car disassembled for that long! So we really need to have the yokes ready to go!

Cheers

That is a wide open question since the way the posi is built has direct relation to axle endplay. If you want the best build you do it as I mentioned, if you just want to put the car on the road 185 should work but the endplay could be 0-30"
