I am new here as I have finally purchased a nice 80’ model. I am trying to wire up the factory cigarette lighter and keep popping fuses. Can someone help with pics or diagrams please? Any help is greatly appreciated.
The lighter itself could be shorted, the wire the runs to the bottom if it is an orange wire, there should also be a grounding ring under the retainer.
You can see in this picture the other items tied into that circuit.
I have a wire plugged in to the strip at the base of the retainer. There are two wires that appear to come from the same power source that plug in to the connection plugs. There is a plug in the center and one around the outside.

I had something similar happen. I kept blowing the instrument panel fuse ( gage lights ). As it turns out there was some bare copper wire at the very base of the cigarette lighter and the metal clip at the bottom of the lighter was shorting out on it. Make sure the plastic insulation completely covers the wire where it connects to the base of the cigarette lighter.
