Default Accelerator cable mounting question

I am putting the pedals and cable back in the car. I have the early 69 two piece pedal rod and my AIM has the later one. My confusion is on the cable mount circled in blue in the picture. I assume it mounts inside the firewall with the one bolt. But the firewall seal that came with it would then point inside the car and not seal anything. It wouldn’t work on the engine side either as the raised weld nut that the bolt threads into is there. Confused!

Bolts onto engine side of firewall IIRC.

edit: searching the web, diagrams show the cable bolting in from the engine side. Not sure how to explain the nut on yours being wrong.

Is that an original cable or a repro?

So Pat, you have the later design but the cable should mount the same. Does your stop, the part pictured above in my post, bolt inside the firewall? Thanks for the help.

69autox, I think that is a rivit shown in that pic and you can see the weld nut in lower right corner that is on mine too. It is a repro cable but is identical to the one I took off, which itself might have been a repro. Very confused, but with the weld nut on the engine side, it must bolt from inside into that weld nut, but this firewall seal has me all confused. Thanks to you too!

Mine does have a weld nut on the outside. Trying to find a good picture of it since I covered my firewall with heat shield. Here are a couple a of pictures inside and out.

Hmm. I'll have to look at mine when I get home. I've changed my throttle cable a couple of times but don't remember a rivit. But I could definitely be wrong, or my car could be!

My lone experience with a reproduction cable was that the crimp was not tight enough, and allowed the cable sheathing to slip in the crimp and thus lose throttle travel. I ended up replacing it with a good original from a friend. FYI

I know when I replaced my cable I did it from the inside. Unbolted the one bolt and pulled it through and reattached the repo one the opposite way. Will have to take a picture of the repo cable and see how it looks. But your replacement should bolt from the inside.

Great Pat, your pictures are perfect. You did a lot better job recording how things went than I did lol. Now I have to figure out the rest of this stuff. Thanks again!

Sure enough, mine is also bolted from the inside. Sorry to add to the confusion, senility may be setting in.

Lol, no worse than me getting confused with this thing. Thank you for your help. Now I have figure out why with my lever attached correctly to the pivot, it doesn’t line up with the cable hole. Wish I had the one piece. Oh well!
