When replacing the front rotors, is it necessary to re-rivet them to the hubs or will the lug studs hold them in place sufficiently?

Index the rotors to a lug before you remove the rivets. The rivets where for runout machining purposes. If you don't index them, you could have runout issues.

No point in indexing, he's replacing the rotors.
The lug nuts will hold fine, but they may need to be shimmed to get acceptable run-out.

On my recent brake job, I tried to drill out those rivets very unsuccessfully. I had new rotors so I finally ordered new hubs - and was told, after doing some research, that no, you just put the rotors on the hubs, and the wheel/lugs keep them flush for the calipers and pads.

Thanks everyone, kind of what I thought. I have shim material if needed. I will measure run out with a dial indicator like the book shows.

great information GTR1999, do you have a picture showing what your shims would look like if needed to correct the runout and how you place them?
