Any of you guys with top post batteries have a suggestion on how to get a battery disconnect switch to fit in the rear compartment? I'd really like to start using one, but can't seem to figure out how one can fit given the lack of space above the top of the battery. Any hints?
Re: battery disconnect for top-post batteries (Markm10431)
why not convert to side post?
'Cause the car is mostly original and I want to keep it that way, if possible. I hadn't thought about using the side post terminal to tie into the battery, that may be an option.

Tough problem, Shannon. I have a later 69 with side post terminals. You might be able to use one of those "Wirth-Co" knife switches as a disconnect. They're pretty "flat" when they're engaged. You would have to leave the battery lid up if you disconnected it. I have one of these on my 69, as I got tired of wiggling my hand down to get to the "green wheel". JC Whitney sells the knife switches in several configurations...top and side post. Chuck

I have a '68 and I use a disconnect switch with the green wheel that you screw down. I use the top posts on my battery and I have no clearance problems. My batttery compartment cover closes just fine. The cable is attaching at kind of a 90 degree angle to the top post. I think I got the switch from Ecklers.

I also have the same disconnect switch with no clearance problem. Also have the wired fuse connection to keep clock and radio presets working.Though my wired fuse connection has a bayonet type fuse.
