Re: 71 Windshield wiper door adjustments. (Rick Church)
There is a #10 screw on each side in the rearward arm that lifts and lowers the door. The head of this screw hits a nylon bumper at the base of the winshield - which is about the only "adjustment" that would cause one side to be higher than the other. It sounds like the screw is too far UNSCREWED on that side.
If that's not it, then the whole assembly may need to be adjusted (ie. loosen all of the mounting screws and move things) down on the high side.

The door will come off if you remove the TWO bolts at each end of the door. Be warned that those bolts are notorious for snapping off when attemping to remove them. I had to drill them out and heli-coil mine, a very nerve racking procedure!!
Re: 71 Windshield wiper door adjustments. (7t2vette)
7t2vette offers very good advice!!! I had to helicoil mine as well once a bolt snapped off. Also, the bolts and nylon washers are notorious for falling into the abyss between the fender and door pillar and are lost forever......don't ask how I know! (anyway I'll have a good source of them if I ever take the body off)
I'm sure you can adjust the door without removing it, though you will need to remove the grille to move the whole assembly up and down. One little tip is to make sure the door is not just sitting on the wiper arm. If the wiper arms are adjusted incorrectly, they'll sit too high when parked and prevent the door from closing completely.
Let me know if that helps, I can have a closer look at mine if necessary, it's been a while since I tinkered with it.

Joe
Joe, those shoulder bolts with the nylong washers are readily available at Paragon? If you are like me, you have 397 Corvette catalogs ;) for reference and parts. I bought two of these because I, too, lost some of them down into the black abyss. I thought about gluing a small magnet onto a string and then letting it slide gently down there. But, since these bolts were available, it was easier just to buy them. Now you know why GM started putting screens over that gap.
Re: 71 Windshield wiper door adjustments. (Rick Church)
Rick, what they said above is good. Sorry, I tried to update my home dialup to MSN8 last night and couldn't get back on. I have to address some setting problems.
I decided to redo the wiper arms, etc on my car before I knew about this place. I must have gotten lucky or my car has had the bolts and screws holding the grill and door on replaced before, cause I sprayed them with WD40 and got them out with no trouble. I took all the wiper arm mechanisims and door attachments out and apart as much as possible and thny cleaned and repainted them and the surrounding area. I then reinstalled acording to AIM instructions and had no problem with fit. I replace the bolts and nylon washers and the seals and boot on the actuator as well. When I started, my door didn't work, about three days after I had it back together, I was going to try to get it to work and thought why not try it again. It worked perfectly and has ever since, just glad I purposely left the wiper arms off.
Sorta long, but point is with the AIM, go for it, it's easier than it looks.
