Since it doesn't say, assume cast pistons. It looks like a $1500 motor at most, regardless of what he says. Those old heads aren't that good any more, but were good 40 years ago. I have been fretting over what to do with my motor for a while. As a benchmark, you can get a new 350HO crate motor from scoggin-dickey for $2112 until Nov 30. I am considering getting their modified vortec head kit that includes a performer intake for $900, plus a grand to rebuild my motor. Go to the chevyhighperformance websites and look at their cylinder head comparison articles. You should also look at their goodwrench 350 buildup series. You didn't say what your goals are for this swap, but you shouldn't get into "parts envy" for a street motor. Joe
Re: Thoughts on this as a replacement engine? (Captain_Kaboom)
A new 350 block witha .030 bore - why did he bore out a "new" block? if its as new as the other parts - are we talking a "New" crank or a reground "old" crank, are the rods "new" or resized originals - you get my point - I dont think foe $2500 you could buy all of that "New" - he bought the short from a machine shop - I'd be willing to bet that most of that shorts internals are reground, resized, repaired old parts - excepting the "New" pistons, rings, bearings, freeze plugs etc.... which I have no doubt are new - as to their quality - Who knows.
I'm a little too pessimistic about claims of engine parts - or anything on e-bay for that matter. If he cant fax you reciepts or a list of the mfrs of the internals -I wouldnt touch it with a 10' pole.

Wow, that looks like a good idea. Do you have any idea of what else I would need to purchase to get this in my '77? I mean, can I use all my old stock intake, water pump, etc? I don't want to buy an engine then spend another $600 on the other stuff- or do I have to?
