Default Lacquer paint for touch up source 79 attempting repair

Cross posting from body..only found one source tcp global but not paying 200 for a quart without thinners etc and no returns..
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...in-2020-a.html

got my 79 last summer 29000 miles and came with some 1980 custom airbrushing that lets just say was very personal on hood and themed “on fire” written on back..well wet sanded a portrait off hood but gave up on flames so 3m wrap to make stinger, and covered rear bumper with same wide stripe..
well after solvent, scraping etc on bumper pretty left with mess and some gouges etc..
i then wet sanded area bought some SEM flexible bumper primer surfacer...filled gouges...wet sand 400 until flat..
then what the hell..had a one ounce brush touch up from a sponsor made by custom color match, pretty decent match ..and sprayed as is because toll manufacturer wouldn’t reply as to what the paint is and i was working with very little left..i am pretty sure that 2 ounces or less is actually acrylic lacquer paint..
I bought an airbrush
Amazon Amazon
took what i had left and loaded it up..i ran out of paint to finish but it does wet sand down decent..
i ordered 2 ounces from paintscratch and seem from web site it is lacquer..hoping for a match..and vendors only sell 1 ounce..also ordered 2 ounces of lacquer thinner as Home Depot thinner is for clean up not thinner..
i am thinking a brush in cap legally allows lacquer..anyway will update when i get..
you can see where im cutting down where black primer starting to show..that i will cover when paint comes..
all in all a decent option for those with original paint and want some ‘larger’ repairs..
you then 2000 grit to blend and polish..
good luck!

Another idea......The flex bumper has to have additive to prevent cracking anyway. Another option would have been to repaint the whole bumper with whatever paint is available now. Use the flex additive and get the color right and shoot the whole bumper. Just another way to do it with less pain.

OP
I KNOW materials have changed over the years (EPA etc) ... are you working with a local auto body & paint supply house ?

I will when time comes for non lacquer refinish and disasemble and go all in hardeners etc...

right now was looking for cost effective touch up blending

Update,,
the 2 ounces paintscrach.com of bottle brush and laquer thinner pretty reasonable..about 40 bucks and have brush paint left..
diluted about 125-150% lacquer thinner, sprayed with my new toy..
buffer with rubbing 3m compound and pretty happy with match, actually closer to body darker than bumper which originally dont match.
im happy with it until someday repaint..
hope someone also tries if needed..

Default Nice work. Your car reminds me of the '79 L82 that I had.
