Well, I woke up the '78 from it's long winter nap and pulled it out to the driveway for a wash. Everything seemed to be working as it was when she was parked in November. After the wash I started it and BAM no tachometer, no voltage meter and the GEN light was on. Any ideas?
What does "BAM" mean? Did you hear, or see, something immediately before the equipment failed?

Well, let's start by taking voltage readings at the battery terminals.
1. Take a reading with the engine off and record that.
2. THEN start the engine and take a reading with the engine running and record that.
Post those values and we'll see where we are then....

The tach boards go bad. I had the same issue. Go to Wilcox corvette. They have very good info on this and sell an American made board and info on how to replace it.

My tach just quit one day while setting at a stop light. I changed the board with one from Wilcox, the old one had what appeared to be a burned spot on it but tack still didnt work. Wound up being tach filter. Could have been both but at any rate tach is working now.
