Default 69 Accelerator Cable

My accelerator cable has been rubbed bare in some areas, so it's time to replace it ans I have noticed that it binds at times. I've never done this before and although some have called
it an easy job, the location of the cable end under the dash (and may fat hands) looks a bit daunting to me. So Bubba must have "fixed" a loose cable earlier as you can see by his
"fix" in the first photo:

Nice job, huh?

So I have seen that others have recommended taking the pedal mount out first to ease the replacement, and I have a question. Do I remove the 2 bolts seen on the next photo?

They appear to be the bolts that hold in the pedal mechanism..

I think the easiest way to replace the cable is to take those two bolts in your picture out. Also the bolt right below where the cable goes through the firewall. Disconnect from the carb and pull the whole thing into the interior. Much easier to get the little plastic cable retainer off this way than crawling under and trying to do it in the car imho.

Thanks for the info - I thought those bolts were what everyone was talking about, but wanted to be sure. Besides, I don't know how easy the metal wrapping around the cable ball end will be to
remove.

Yep, three bolts and it is out. Since it looks like you have the 68 and early 69 2 piece rod and lever, you can bend that part that holds the cable to take up any slack when you get the cable to where it needs to be on the carb side to get wide open throttle at the end of pedal travel. Just went through this with my new 69 cable and had to bend the lever to take up slack in the cable.

I guess that might be the reason that Bubba decided to place a copper wrap between the lever end and the cable end. Thanks for the info!

69ttop502 - you were right, by taking out the pedal assembly it made the job pretty easy. About the only difficult part was getting the upper bolt out and then back in. Sort of a neck strainer, but not bad at all.

Good for you. Should have said to take the two bottom bolts out first and then the pedal drops and makes it easier to get the top bolt around the cable. Glad you got it. Did you put a new cable in or readjust the one you have?
