I got the TH350 in my '78 rebuilt a couple months ago and since then I have had it back to the shop 3 times for the same problem. Feels much better this last time I got it back but we'll see how long it lasts. The problem was the intermediate sprag on the clutch drum was breaking. My tranny guy said it splines to the drum and is used when shifting into 3rd. He has been honest about the whole thing and says he's not sure why the sprag keeps breaking becuase that's kind of unusual, especially to break after just a couple weeks. They have also repaired it every time at no cost (yay warranty!) and no complaining. I honestly dont' think it's the shop installing something wrong. This last time they replaced the whole clutch drum instead of just the sprag in an attempt to keep it from breaking. I was just wondering if anybody else has ever had this problem and what caused it. Hope I got all the part names right, I'm not much of a tranny guy. Like I said, it feels a lot better this last time I got it back so I'm hopeful it won't break again. Thanks.
45ACP is a tranny man  How much power are you applying and what kind of tires are you using? With a well built TH350 and 400 ish hp 355 ci motors i made hundreds of 1/4 mile passes and it would spin 265 TA radials hard on the gear slaming 1-2 shift during street driving. IMO something is not right to have so many failures

Re: TH350 Question (gkull)
On the other hand, the Turbo 350 in my Nova (behind a hand-built L82 350) broke three times by the time I had 2500 miles on her. I went to a Turbo 400 and drove it for five years after that with no problems. :blueangel:
I'm on my third th350 (This time a B&M Strip trans) and to be honost never broke it,just smoked the clutches. I was tempted to go 7004r for the overdrive, but my gut says it won't take the torque I push.
Anybody want a TH350? I have a perfectly good one sitting on my garage floor. Simply come to San Antonio, slip a few $20's in my palm, and go home happy!
