Let's play "Important Part" or "Bubba was Drunk"
This item was bolted to the stud that attaches the steering colum to the firewall on the inside. It was bolt in this order :
nut-this item-nut-steering column flange-firewall
It's not a switch (as the "pull chain" doesn't move)
My vote was Bubba was drunk. But why bolt something like this in ther unless it served some purpose. Even if it was his own "custom" contraption?

Could BUBBA have possibly needed this for a shim....maybe he didn't have any washers around. :) Chuck
Put in on eBay as a "Rare" part with no reserve. If someone buys it ask them what it is.

I agree with the E-Bay idea. Just make sure to list a psuedo name and use for this device -- make it 'sound' important or rare. Don't forget to make the buyer pay shipping our you could be out a few bucks.

That's what I thought at first but it was between two nuts so there was no need to shim this area.

I know what it was. My 1975 K5 Blazer had the same thing on it when I bought it.
It is part of an old JC Whitney aftermarket cruise control system.

They are running a Jeep Wrangler on the dyno. I walk past it and start laughing at the bumper sticker "HONK if you like my *****!" The tech asks me what I'm laughing at and when I tell him it's the bumper sticker, he says to look underneath the spare tire hanging from the back.
There was a blue sack hanging under there that looked like, well, you guessed it :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
