Default Parking Brake Equalizer Spring

Okay, this may sound silly but I could use some strategy on how to attach the spring from the parking brake equalizer to the cross member. Should be no big deal but lying underneath the car I can not get any leverage to stretch and connect the spring. I tried to connect from the cross member to the threaded rod or the other way around and couldn't do it.. I have tried disconnecting at the brake handle to give me slack but then couldn't reconnect to handle after spring is attached. If the car was in the air I"m sure it wouldn't be a problem but from on the floor it is a no go. Maybe I just need another bowl of Wheaties to give me the strength. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well, I figured out a way to do it. Little unorthodox how it was accomplished but end result is the spring is attached'. I would share how I did it but then I would have to change my screen name to "Bubba"

If the spring is real stretched now ,what happens when you try to max out the hand brake ?

Not easy...you have to pull real hard on the spring at the end you want to attach but rotate the spring end clockwise (as seen from the drivers side like in picture) so that the curved end is at an angle to better be able to get it into the frame hole. I used a pair of vise grips positioned as far as you can go without hitting the start of the coil. Good luck!

Did you have to adjust the rear cables at all one you got the spring attached? My parking brake is doing nothing for me right now, and I think its because there is too much slack in the cable passing through the equalizer. I adjusted the equalizer almost all the way forward and there's still too much slack. Anyone know of another way to adjust that rear cable?

Are the parking brake shoes properly adjusted?

Here is how my PO bubba did it. The issue was more than just a stretched cable and required a total rebuild of the parking brake assemblies at the rear wheel.

Bubba fix for parking brake.

The shoes are adjusted first, then the cable
