1972 LT1 had fluctuating needle. Replaced sending unit on drivers side. No luck. Removed green wire from sending unit & connected to ground. Needle went to HOT which indicates a bad sending unit. Should I purchase another sending unit or could there be another problem? Thanks in advance.
Here. Go read this website. Stop buying parts until you do the troubleshooting. You may need the Willcox adjustable resistor, I did, and it turned out wonderful. BUT first you need to determine what is wrong. http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/?...&s=temperature

Did you put anything on the threads of the new sender?
Until you get it fixed and to check your gauge when you do Mr Gasket sells a radiator cap with a temp gage on it. Think I will get one too. When I bought mine the gauge wasn't working so I put a new sender in after testing the gauge and wire by grounding the sender connection (pegged) and then opening the circuit (no reading).
