Default Autometer gauge help

Ok, I know some of you have replaced all of your guages with the Phantom ones from Autometer. I have been looking at this for some time now and have decided to take the plunge. I have a couple of questions for you all.

Is it 2 1/16" or 2 5/8"?
I think I know how to mount them, but would like to see the different ways you did it.

thanks

I used the 2 1/16 in place of the OEM's at the center console. I took the gauge panel fully out and totally dismembered it. Then mounted the Autometers with their mounting brackets to the gauge panel (leaving the back mount portion off.)

Easy way to wire them is to mark each OEM wire and use the same for the Autometers. Also I connected all the ground wires together and ran one ground line to the engine block.

One extra thing I did. When I placed the Autometers into the stock gauge holes I saw some daylight around the edges and didn't like the sloppy fit. I bought some 2 1/16 O-rings from the hardware store and placed one around each gauge body. With gauges set in place the O-rings is only discernable to those that know they're there and the overall fit and appearance is enhanced.

1> they are 2 1/16" for the center console.
In your year the install will be much more straight forward than in my 78 however I do have instruc tions that can be downloaded on my website. However as mentioned before they apply to the 78 more so than the 70.

They are quite strightforward for the install - and it can be done in an afternoon with little effort - just take your time and spend extra time with the wiring - a good wiring job pays off in the future if you have to go back in there, a bad wiring job is just too bubba unfortunately.

My best advice would be to remove the center guage console face and install and wire all the gauges "on the bench" and then take the completed - wired - assembly back to the car and hook it into the harness there.

My instructions can be found on this page.

I used the 2 1/16 center gauges and the 5" tach and speedo. I went with the mechanical speedo because I didn't want to install the electrical sensor...
