I need to do something with my 40 year old door interior. I don’t want the stock panels. I don’t use the arm rest so I want it gone. I also don’t walk on my doors, so I want the Carpet gone. The map pockets is one of the most useless parts of my car, so it’s gotta go. Show me pictures of your mods so I can borrow your ideas.
. How are you going to shut the door if you lose the arm rest?
Here's a neat idea- early 2000's Lincoln town car- really nice leather- used on the front and rear doors- the rears are usually in mint shape at the junkyard.
I ended up with a black set for my door panels. Maybe $5 in them?
I had the door panel covers installed. Since I didn’t want armrests, I moved the door locks, that was easy. I found some leather straps in my Harley spare parts. I’ll change them to tan when the stores open after Corona virus. I have new doeskin door release plastic on order. What do you all think?
I have Doe skin now , I was thinking about black and red and just changing everything but the Doe skin looks nice and it's much better without those stupid map pouches. Who uses maps anymore?
Bee Jay, how have you attached your door panels to the door? Are you just using the screws through the leather strap and door release plastic, or do you have some trim fixings along the bottom?
A little too late I suppose since you've had them installed but the factory provided a mylar membrane to keep moisture away from the door liners. I happened to be in the local Corvette parts store when a delivery guy showed up with a precut set and I asked "what are those?". Sometimes things work out.
The same people make trans side covers also. Just finished install. What do you think?
Do you have any further zoomed out photos? I like the concept... easier to keep clean than the carpet (AKA no stains from people with large calves ... like me).
Also, I have a hell of a time keeping the carpet retained to the panels after a few seasons of driving in hot weather.
