The last guy owned my 1973 never used the wipers in 10 years but that could be because "someone" connected the wiper switch backwards under the dash. This could've led to burning out the wiper motor, because that didn't work even when tested like Willcox describes, so I replaced the motor in addition to a new wiper switch. Now wipers work great in both speeds and park under the cowl like they're supposed to. Yay me. But as we all know one problem fixed in these cars just reveals another.
When I press the Washer button, it makes a click, but there is no spray. There is no suction at the pump. I've tried to prime the pump but as I said there's no suction at all. I've seen other posts about a bad diaphragm but before I rip out the wiper motor again I want to hear if ya'll have other words for me.
And for the record I hope to never use my wipers or washer but it'd be nice to know they work if I'm caught in a squall somewhere.
When the pump is "working" you should hear a repeating plunger type sound from the wiper motor as the piston for the pump goes back and forth a handful of times (I've never counted, but there's maybe a dozen teeth on the cog that runs the pump)
If you hear that pumping noise and it's not drawing liquid then it's pretty much got to be the diaphragm. Rebuilt kits are available and IIRC weren't a vette specific thing after the got rid of the headlight sprayers
If you don't hear the pumping noise, there's a handful of things that could be wrong inside the washer
If you need to go inside here's when I rebuilt my motor, there might be some useful info in there somewhere https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-assembly.html
