This is my first post. I own a 74 yellow convertible purchased last year. When the top is up the rear of the top does not seal tightly against the deck lid. There is a very small gap. Also the side windows when rolled up leave about an 1/8 to a 1/4 inch gap from sealing against the top. The weatherstripping is in good condition. Does the top or windows need adjusting or is the another solution for getting a tight seal?
Hello,
Should be able to screw in the two locking pins on the rear bow to snug it down to the trunk lid. The weather stripping has slots and can be adjusted. It might be a pain if the weather stripping is glued to the frame. The window glass adjustments will have to be made in the door. There's a couple of stops located at the top of the door behind the door panel. You should be able to reposition these to let your window roll up a little more. Good luck.
I have the same problem on my 71. I have not had a chance to look for any adjustments but first pass didnt indicate anything. Let us know what you come up with.
If the gap around the deck lid is even all the way around, you could adjust the whole top down by lowering the whole frame where it attached to the car. Loosen the four bolts (two on each side) and let the top slide down at the connections right behind each seat.
You would then have to adjust the window glass (sounds like you need to anyway) as the way others have stated earlier. After removing your door panel, there are stops located in the top of the window tracks to stop the glass from coming up too high. Adjust the hieght after you have adjusted the glass fore and aft, and even across the top of the frame. There are adjustment bolts in the door about center of the door, that when loosened the window glass can be moved about in any direction and still remain fixed in the track.
A Chilton manual was very helpful on this when I dismantled my Vette for the Paint job. Worth the money.
Oh BTW, Welcome to the forum. If it would help, I could scan the manual pages on the procedure and email them to you. Let me Know. That's what neighbors are for.
Thanks for the info and offer. I have a Haynes manual and after reviewing it I believe it explains the procedure. I think I will try to lower the frame as you suggest because I have turned the locking pins in as far as they will go.
Hi
I don't think you get writ of the aft bow gap by lowering the complete top assy.
If you screwed the aft pins all the way in, they don't catch the locking mechanisme anymore. Wind them back out and snap the top down till you hear and feel lock engagement. Only than you can determine the amount , they can be screwed in.
If you lower the complete top at the door posts, you will loose the tension on your canvas and it will look horrible and flap araound in the wind.
Good luck Gunther
