I’m changing out my end link bushings on my 69 and noticed that neither side would seat properly. Is it possible that the bar itself is bent? The PO mentioned it was hit in the front end. The reason I was changing the bushings is because they were severely worn, so something isn’t correct.
Is the bar by chance installed upside down? I know I was able to install my rear bar (VB&P model) upside down without any difficulty. I only realized it when I installed my tire tub and the bar became an issue.
Here are a couple of pictures of the front sway bar on a 1969, L46 Coupe...
Ok, I removed it and turned it around and it definitely fit better. While I had it off I placed it on a flat surface and it wobbled indicating that it is bent slightly. I will drive it some and then try to retighten it, hopefully it will seat a little better.
Be aware that as you are tightening one side more than the other, you are preloading the suspension some. Best practice is to adjust the length of the spacer so as not to induce a torque. Of course a little is OK.
