Is there a secret to getting these tack strips in? I'm using vice grips, but it's still tough....
Also, when the strips are in, they actually sit about 1/3 inch into the rail, is that the way they should be?
I used the plastic ones in the Al Knoch kit. It is a pretty tight fit. I did mine out in the summer sun to make them a little more pliable. I started in the middle. I centered my strips, put some weatherstripping clue in the channel, used a dull wood chisel the same width as the tach strip, had my son pull and strech the strip, worked the strip down into the channel. The bow next to the rear bow used a double layer of stripping. The other bows did have the strips sitting slightly down in the bow channels. I don't know how these compare to factory weather stripping as my frame was already stripped. Hopes this helps.
I used the body type vice grips to crush it down into the groove after using a small amount of 3M adhesive and "bulging" the tack strip up (sort of folding it a tiny bit) so it fit in at the sides. Once the actual top is on, it isn't going anywhere.
How is your front metal bow/header? About half of the tabs were rusted off on mine!
